Race Course: The race begins on world-famous Buck Island, which boasts a spectacular beach and living coral reef designated as an underwater park by the National Park Service, continues across  the channel and then along St. Croix’s shoreline of colorful reefs and sandy bottom. The Swim concludes at the Mermaid beach of The Buccaneer, where a palm lined finish line and steel pan band greet swimmers. To see swim times from previous races, click on Race Results. Water: Temperature is expected to be between 78 and 81 degrees F. Wetsuits are not allowed. Bring lots of sunscreen!

Award Categories: Overall Top 10 finishers, Top 3 female 19 & over, Top 3 male 19 & over, Top 3 40 and over female, Top 3 40 and over male, Top five 60 and over,  Top 3 junior females 18 & under, Top 3 junior males 18 & under, Top male fin swimmer, Top female fin swimmer.

Entry Information:  Approximately 200 entries will be accepted. Those entries arriving after the limit is reached or after the event is closed on October 5, 2010 will not be accepted. This event is a fundraiser for The Nature Conservancy’s program to protect the coral reefs of the Virgin Islands. Entry fee is $95 which includes: swim cap, T-shirt, award lunch, entry into race, pre race cocktail party, taxi to marina, and boat ride to Buck island

Age Requirements: The minimum age to participate in the five mile swim is 13 years old. 

Race start time: 6 AM taxis leave The Buccaneer for Green Cay Marina, race marking at 6:15 and the race starts on Buck Island promptly at 7:30 AM.

Maximum Time allotment: swimmers must reach the first turn buoy by 1.5 hours and be finished in 4 hours; Anyone not meeting these times may be pulled from the race per the safety director.
